Andrea Magnani

In the beginning there was nothing, but it was kind of fun watching nothing grow

The site specific intervention for the riverside spaces acts as an odorous and spatial deviation of some elements already present on site. Through brief inconclusive additions to the system of the trails of the park, the spontaneous path of the passer-by is diverted towards a specific point of view in which to experience an altered olfactory presence.
By shifting the conditions that allow us to identify certain traces as real artistic interventions, our attention overshadows the work without reflecting on it immediately, but by letting it manifest itself only later – or perhaps never – as a doubt.

Andrea Magnani, visual artist and designer, based in Milan, works with installation, video, music and performance condensed into different research strands. His works unmasks the meaning-making attitude, staging the overlapping of order and generative tensions. In his meticulously constructed environments the viewer is haunted by a distilled reality where uncanny yet familiar objects participate in a sensual balancing act. Whether being unreadable drawings, fake ready-mades or non-spectacular performances, the dialogue between every part of a work aids to evoke non-verbal feelings. Erosive ambiences where the boundary between reality (authenticity) and representation (art) is constantly shifting. He has exhibited and performed in public and private spaces. In 2007 he co-founded Resign, a collective research design studio. In 2014 he founded the art label and artist-run agency Siliqoon.
