Invernomuto

BETA MED

Invernomuto’s project Black Med, initiated in 2018, is an ongoing platform which aims at intercepting the trajectories that sounds trace passing through the Mediterranean Sea. This geographical area, once understood as a fluid entity aiding the formation of networks and exchange, is now the scenario of a humanitarian crisis and heated geopolitical dispute. The sound installation BETA MED is a beta version of blackmed.invernomuto.info, a web platform due to be launched in fall 2021 and designed to perform the musical archive of Black Med. The core of the project is an algorithm able to play with the tracks and to broadcast an endless stream. For Live Arts Week X the algorithm’s output is diffused through two horns activated at irregular timings during the festival.

Invernomuto was born in 2003 from the collaboration between Simone Bertuzzi, and Simone Trabucchi, Although their work focuses primarily on the moving image and sound, they also integrate sculpture, performance and publishing into their practice. Invernomuto explores what remain of subcultures by moving through different media. Observed through unashamedly affected eyes, oral cultures and minor histories are laid open, their vernacular forms examined. Inauthentic materials play a fundamental role within this process, emphasizing the fictitious realities that inspire them. Bertuzzi and Trabucchi have developed individual lines of research into sound with the outlets Palm Wine and STILL, respectively. Black Med, a project conceived in 2018 for Manifesta 12 (Palermo), has recently been part of the performance programme at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019. After a few public steps, Black Med will be further developed in 2021 with Fondazione Morra Greco (Naples) and Pompeii Commitment (Pompei) thanks to the Italian Council VII. Recent solo shows include The Green Parrot, Barcelona (2021), PICO: Un parlante de África en América, Auto Italia, London (2020), Prima Delle Sabbie, Galleria Nazionale, Rome (2019), NN Contemporary Art, Northampton (2019), MED T-1000, Pinksummer, Genoa (2019), Leto Gallery, Warsaw (2019). In 2021 they participate at Liverpool Biennial 2021 – The Stomach and the Port and at 58th October Salon-Belgrade Biennial 2021. www.invernomuto.info
